Aim High at Fraserburgh Campus

Higher National qualifications are advanced courses designed in partnership with industry experts and employers. Completing these college based courses offers an excellent pathway to degrees and is one of the best ways to achieve a career with prospects.

Springboard into work

HNC and HND courses provide practical skills you may need in your chosen career and the theoretical understanding employers will expect you to have.

Fast track route to University

Some HNCs allow direct entry into year 2 of a degree programme at University, whilst HNDs can allow direct entry to year 3. We call this process “articulation”. This varies from course to course and with each University, but the College has many agreements in place which our students take advantage of.

Are you a school leaver?

If you have Highers you could leave school at the end of fifth year, complete your HN qualification at College, enter University and complete your degree a year earlier than if you had decided to stay on at school in the final year.

Higher National Qualifications explained

  • HNCs are equivalent to SCQF Level 7 / Year 1 of University and usually take 1 year to complete
  • HNDs are equivalent to SCQF Level 8 / Year 2 of University and usually take 2 years to complete
  • HNC/Ds are classified as advanced courses and funding is available through the Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS).
