Supporting People with Asperger's Syndrome
Explore Asperger’s Syndrome and how it can affect the way people think and behave.
Why take this course?
This e-learning course is ideal for those working within the health and social care sector, and would also be of interest to teachers, parents and community support staff. It covers common difficulties that people with this condition experience, and will look at various coping techniques. On successful completion of the course, you will be able to apply the knowledge and understanding you have developed over the duration of the course in your support of those with Asperger’s.
What you will experience
The course is broken down into four easy steps. This includes an introduction and three study units:
- What is Asperger's?
- Asperger's and social interaction
- Characteristics of autism and providing support
The objectives for the course are to define autism and Asperger's and identify the possible causes of the condition. The course will outline the benefits of early diagnosis and the theory behind the Autism Spectrum conditions. You will study some of the difficulties people have with this condition, and how we can support that person in their communication. You will also explore how people with this condition see the world differently. The person centre approach is explored and identifies the benefits to those concerned.
This course will require you to manage your workload independently, without tutor support.
Previous knowledge or experience would be of benefit but is not essential.
What you will need
Students must have access to a computer with a broadband internet connection.
