City & Guilds
Scottish Certificate for Personal Licence Holders

For those who work in a licensed premises or intend to sell alcohol to the public.

Overview

Why take this course?

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Once candidates have booked onto this course, they must download a copy of the City & Guilds Personal Licence Holder’s Guide. Candidates will be expected to complete pre-course reading prior to attending the course. A hard copy of the Guide will be sent to candidates along with joining instructions approximately 5 working days before the course. However, in the meantime candidates should undertake pre-course reading using the electronic copy.

The Scottish Government requires all personal licence holders to undertake regular refresher training every 5 years, in order to update their skills and enable them to retain their personal licences. All personal licence holders must attend an update course, sit and pass an exam at the relevant time. Failure to ensure this training is done could be fatal to your business - you cannot operate licensed premises unless the premises manager has a valid personal licence, and you cannot operate premises after 1am unless a personal licence holder is present in the premises.

Licensing Boards will send a notification to all personal licence holders 3 months before the 5th anniversary of the issue of your licence. Not receiving this reminder does not excuse licence holders from meeting these requirements. The success of notifications depends on whether or not the Licensing Board has your correct details, therefore any changes to your address or name must be passed on to the Licensing Board responsible for issuing your licence.

What you will experience

You will cover a range of important topics regarding laws, duties and responsibilities of personal licence holders. This will ensure you have the skills and knowledge necessary to successfully achieve the qualification.
