Overview

Why take this course?

The Shell Engineering Scheme (SES) is a prestigious fast-track course, designed by Shell in conjunction with NESCol to meet the up and coming needs of the energy industry.

Students who are accepted onto the SES will study 4 full-time qualifications over two years – Performing Engineering Operations Level 2; National Certificate Engineering Systems Level 6; HNC Electrical Engineering and HNC Measurement & Control. The content of the course reflects the needs of industry and may be subject to some variation. Students who successfully complete this programme are well placed to enter employment or to progress into university.

Please note that the SES has a unique application process. Applicants must complete the SES application form and send this with a covering letter to Heather Sim, Fraserburgh Campus, Henderson Road, Fraserburgh, AB43 9GA.

The closing date for applications is Wednesday 10th May 2017. Applications received after this date will not be processed.

  • The course is designed by industry for industry and has just 14 places available
  • There are 4 work placements at St Fergus gas terminal during the 2 year programme
  • You will attend college 5 days a week to study the PEO, NC and 2 Higher National qualifications
  • Full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided
  • You will receive a training and attendance allowance
  • Successful completion can contribute significantly towards a Modern Apprenticeship qualification.

Applicants should possess a good academic ability, preferably at Higher level. Applicants should also have good interpersonal skills and a strong work ethic.

Please note that students will be required to organise their own transport to the work placements.

Education

At University

NESCol has excellent formal articulation links with Robert Gordon University (RGU), the University of Aberdeen and many universities around Scotland, as well as the Open University. The College has a unique partnership agreement with RGU called Degree Link which allows students who complete their HN level qualifications on the Shell Engineering Scheme to go straight into year 2 of selected engineering degrees routes.
