Music, Sound Production and Drama
Those who choose to study music, sound production or drama will work closely with our experienced and knowledgeable teaching staff, learning from lecturers, those around them and through their own personal development. The atmosphere is one of expression and innovation, so it’s not unusual to see collaboration across different disciplines - for example TV students filming live bands, or sound students working on sound engineering for a theatrical production!
The College is also a member of the Scottish Drama Training Network.
The Basement Studio Theatre and related workrooms have a range of excellent resources, including:
- Studio theatre with seating for an audience of up to 100
- Backstage area with dressing rooms, changing facilities and wardrobes
- Movement Room with mirrored wall, spring floor and barre
- Recording Studios
- Rehearsal Rooms
Throughout term-time a number of student performances, exhibitions and events take place, and students, staff and the general public are strongly encouraged to come along. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase what they’ve been working on in class and for people from all over to come and experience the creative flare of NESCol students!

TV, Radio and Creative Media
Our media-focused facilities are very impressive, and provide students with hands-on experience in using software and equipment used by industry professionals at the highest levels of broadcasting. The College is also an AVID Learning Partner.
Our TV facilities are situated in the basement area of our Aberdeen City Campus, giving you the chance to join a collaborative and creative working environment whilst you learn to direct and perfect your work. Our Editing suite boasts Avid Media Composer Suites, which are for the exclusive use of our Creative Industries students.
These are used throughout the TV and film industries for editing everything from adverts and soap operas, to the Hollywood blockbusters you see at the cinema. Next door to the Editing Suite we have a fully equipped TV Studio, where you’ll find an array of cameras and lights.
This equipment is constantly reviewed and updated to ensure the equipment used is of the same standard that students would encounter in professional television and film studios.
Aside from the editing suites studio and gallery, students also get the chance to go and film outside of College, gaining access to a range of state-of-the-art filming equipment.
Because of the creative nature of those working in our basement area, we encourage students from different course disciplines to interact and exchange ideas. This gives them a more realistic flavour of life in creative media and the performing industries, and allows them to develop valuable skills in communication, teamwork and innovation.
