“The lecturers have got such diverse photography experience and they love sharing their own experience and work they’ve done… We really get a chance to sample all aspects of photography at NESCol. I also really like the facilities. The college has got their own studios, they’ve got so much different equipment, and they’ve got a dark room. So I get to experience all those things without buying the equipment.”

“College has given me confidence to try challenging things out of my comfort zone. It’s better to try something and reach your full potential. I wouldn’t have considered working with children before or had the confidence to look at university degrees to consider applying for in the future. College has made me truly happy about my future and optimistic I can succeed and achieve things even at my age.”

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

“NESCol is a huge family and everyone is there to help you – there’s a solution to any problem and answers to all of your questions. When I started I thought it would be simple because I knew some English and speak Latvian, Russian as well as German in the past – but it wasn’t easy! ESOL gave me self-confidence because I could express my thoughts more clearly. It was a great start and gave me a push to go on and study further and go on to university and follow my passion for law, which I hadn’t planned when I started at College.”

“I think my story shows the diversity a career in Beauty Therapy can offer. Not only can it allow you to travel, work anywhere in the world, but also give you the choice to work in an established salon or set up your own business and become your own boss. The opportunities are endless. It’s such a fun, rewarding career and the job satisfaction from making your client feel better about themselves is priceless. “

“I was so nervous about starting College and felt uncertain about my abilities but NESCol completely changed that. I loved the course, learned so much from my lecturers and it gave me a new found confidence. It’s not easy at times being a busy Mum and juggling study but I have proven I can do it. When I started at NESCol I would never have believed I’d end up studying at a prestigious art school and firmly believe that my time at College has given me an advantage in coping with the demands of a degree. I’d say to any parents out there who feel they want a second chance at education to go for it and grab the opportunity with both hands, it really can change your life. “

An engaging and rewarding College experience

What will 2021/22 look like at NESCol, given the challenges Coronavirus has presented to schools, Colleges and universities this year?

We may not know exactly how the next College year will run – but we do know that an engaging, exciting experience awaits for students signing up to start next summer.

At NESCol we follow the latest Scottish Government guidance in relation to Coronavirus, ensuring the College community is protected. The health, safety and wellbeing of students, staff and visitors is our number one priority.

This year things have been a little different for students. We operated a blended approach prior to Christmas, with some access to campus for practical sessions alongside online classes, and moved to remote learning between January and March as restrictions were increased across Scotland.

From 15 March 2021 students began to return to our campuses on a managed basis to resume some practical lessons and we’re optimistic that we’ll be able to increase access in the weeks and months ahead as we build towards what promises to be an exciting College year in 2021/22.
