Apprenticeship overview
The Automotive MA combines paid employment with learning at NESCol.
Apprentices gain industry-recognised qualifications while also building practical workplace skills.
The Automotive MA framework outlines what apprentices need to learn and achieve to complete their apprenticeship.
It includes:
- One Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ)
- Two Vocationally Related Qualifications (VRQs)
- Core Skills

SCQF levels show the overall level of learning within the MA.
SCQF Level 6
Suitable for apprentices who are developing the skills and knowledge needed to work confidently in their chosen area.
- Vehicle Paintwork Repair
- Vehicle Body Repair and Alignment
SCQF Level 7
A more advanced level that involves greater technical knowledge and responsibility in the workplace.
- Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
- Vehicle Paintwork Repair
- Vehicle Body Repair and Alignment
A typical Automotive MA lasts four years.
