This course will introduce you to practical skills for all welding and cutting processes.
The SVQ Level 2 PEO qualification forms a mandatory part of an engineering Modern Apprenticeship.
Energy Transition Skills Hub
For students choosing the Aberdeen Altens Campus option, this course will be delivered at the new Energy Transition Skills Hub. The new facility will open in summer 2025 and is the first of its kind in Scotland. It is located adjacent to the College’s existing Aberdeen Altens Campus and within the Skills Campus of the Energy Transition Zone. The Hub will feature industry-standard workshops and flexible teaching spaces, shaped by the needs of employers, as well as cutting-edge equipment reflecting to the latest advancements in the energy sector. The new facility has been designed to showcase future technologies related to offshore wind, electric vehicles, hydrogen, carbon capture and renewables.

This course forms the ‘Foundation Phase’ of a Modern Apprenticeship.
On successful completion, you may gain employment in industry through a Modern Apprenticeship programme.
You may also progress to a higher level engineering course and build on theoretical knowledge to gain employment as a skilled craftsperson or operative in a range of industries.

If you take up a place on a College course, at the start of the course you will be asked to complete an enrolment form. In completing the form and/or taking up a place on a College course, you will enter into a contract with the College and be bound by the North East Scotland College Standard Terms and Conditions of Study. Copies of the Terms and Conditions are available for inspection on notice boards and at various locations throughout the College, at the College Reception, on the College website: nescol.ac.uk, or can be obtained on request from the Student Funding and Admissions Manager, North East Scotland College, Aberdeen City Campus, Gallowgate, Aberdeen AB25 1BN.
