Why take this course?

This course is suitable for anyone interested in sound production, or those who want to improve upon existing knowledge and skills. It is designed to teach you the basics of sound production using industry-standard equipment and can be used to progress to the Sound Production (SCQF Level 6) course.

You will receive useful insight and advice from our industry trained lecturers, and we will show you how to record using ProTools and other sound production software.

What you will experience

You will look in-depth at a variety of topics, including:

  • Microphone basics: Learn the basic functionality of a microphone and the common miking techniques used in the studio.
  • Equipment: Introduction to the common equipment found in a studio and its function and operation.
  • What is sound? Discover the importance of the acoustic properties of a room and how to control them, as well as digital and analogue technology (including parameters for each).
  • Software: Learn how to use software used in industry for recording, editing and mixing music.
  • Recording: Perform a recording in our state-of-the-art recording studio. Find out about recording acoustic instruments, keyboards, vocals etc.
  • Mixing: Gain knowledge of mixing multi-tracked audio. You will be taught the basics of mixing and how to use the variety of tools available.
