NESCol seeks finance professional to join Regional Board

July 29, 2026

North East Scotland College (NESCol) is looking to appoint a new Regional Board Member with a background in finance to help shape the future of education and workforce development across the region.

As one of Scotland’s largest providers of vocational education and training, NESCol serves an area of more than 2,500 square miles, supporting 20,000 learners and over 1,200 businesses every year.

The College is inviting applications from individuals with experience in finance who are passionate about education and creating opportunities for the people and communities of the North East. Previous board experience is not essential.

Board Members play a key role in ensuring NESCol continues to deliver high-quality learning experiences, meets the needs of employers and industry, and supports the social and economic ambitions of the region.

The Board contributes valuable strategic insight, providing oversight of a £50 million organisation and helping to guide the College towards its goals as set out in its 2025 – 2030 Strategic Plan.

Susan Elston, Chair of the NESCol Regional Board, said:

“Our students are at the heart of everything we do. Every day, our teams work with learners of all ages and backgrounds to help them develop the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in learning, life and work.

NESCol is one of the best performing colleges in the country, and we intend to get even better.

“Our Board brings together talented people with a wide range of professional backgrounds who share a commitment to education.

“They help to shape important decisions and ensure the College remains responsive, sustainable and focused on delivering the best possible outcomes for our learners.

“We are now looking to strengthen that expertise further with the appointment of a new Board Member with a background in finance.”

The post is voluntary and Board Members have access to ongoing support and training to assist their development, including public sector governance training.

Leona McDermid is Chief Executive of Aberdeen Foyer and Vice Regional Chair of the NESCol Board. She said:

“I joined the Regional Board in 2021 and have found the Board both welcoming and professional. The Executive Team and Board are also deeply committed to ensuring students have a great learning experience.

“The diversity of background and experience represented in the individual Board Members at NESCol is both refreshing and highly valuable.

“I would highly recommend anyone with the correct skill set and a passion for further education to consider joining the Regional Board.”

Board Members have opportunities throughout the academic year to visit NESCol campuses, tour the facilities on offer and experience first-hand the impact the College has on students.

Members are also invited to attend annual graduation ceremonies to celebrate student success alongside proud guests and College staff. Other opportunities for engagement include festive performances, End of Year showcases and the Go Celebrate! Student Awards.
