HND Creative Industries: TV

“The course was absolutely fantastic and the facilities they have at City Campus are excellent. ” – Roberto Bellini

“I learned so much both in terms of theory and practical skills and the fact that I’ve already found related employment is great. “ – Jack Gordon

Meeting on the HND Creative Industries TV course at NESCol was the beginning of a great partnership for Roberto Bellini and Jack Gordon.

Working well together on projects in College has transcended into their careers with both of them now employed by Energy Insider, a media production company specialising in innovative content for the energy industry.

Roberto (27) is from Lizzano, Italy and came to Aberdeen eight years ago to pursue his ambition to work in videography. His inspiration came from his grandfather, a keen videographer himself who would teach Roberto how to use his equipment.

Roberto said: “After completing an ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) course at the College, I was able to progress onto the HND. The course was absolutely fantastic and the facilities they have at City Campus are excellent. From the TV studio to the cameras and other equipment available, it’s all of industry standard. “

As part of the course, students were tasked with making their own film and it’s during this time that Roberto and Jack sealed their successful working partnership, writing, filming, producing and editing ‘Invisible’, a short horror film, which was shown in the College’s Basement Theatre.

Jack (25) came to study at NESCol from Orkney after being furloughed from his job in a sports centre on the islands during the COVID pandemic. He started on the Level 6 Filmcraft and Animation course before successfully progressing to the HND.

He too thoroughly enjoyed his College experience and said: “I’d highly recommend the course to anyone looking to work in the creative industries. I learned so much both in terms of theory and practical skills and the fact that I’ve already found related employment is great. “

Roberto, Head of Videography, and Jack, Videographer, at Energy Insider are both relishing their roles with the progressive Aberdeen based company and their work has taken them overseas this year with trips to Norway, Israel and Cyprus. Energy Insider offer a range of media production services to companies looking to visually promote their business and services, with renewable energy a key focus.

They are also currently in talks with a range of organisations including DYW North East, Aberdeenshire Council, SDS and NESCol to deliver a new educational platform to raise awareness of renewable energy and the related job opportunities to young people. They hope to be able to work with NESCol to provide work placements for current students and give something back to the College after having such a positive experience themselves.
