Update: Completion of courses and certification 2020

April 28, 2020

North East Scotland College is continuing to work with awarding bodies as plans for the completion of courses and certification for the 2019/20 academic year are finalised.

College staff have developed a framework to support the process and that is being implemented as the final term progresses.

Neil Cowie, NESCol Principal, said:  “We appreciate students are eager to know how their course is going to be completed and resulted this year. There has been a lot of media coverage on school qualifications but not much on Colleges – and we are different.

“Many College courses lead to SQA qualifications and others have qualifications run by other awarding bodies such as City and Guilds, IMI. EAL or NCFE. The College cannot make decisions on course outcomes without the agreement of the awarding bodies and we have been in discussion with them to agree how we can complete this year.

“Plans for SQA courses are now well advanced and curriculum teams will be able to share those with students soon. For other awarding bodies and some special courses, the discussions are still ongoing and so news may take a little while longer.”

Students are encouraged to continue to engage with online learning and complete the work set by tutors, which is designed to maintain learning and generate evidence to support the resulting process.
