Easter Sports Club success leads to regular weekly sessions

April 12, 2022

After a hugely successful Easter Sports Club for young people aged 9-14, North East Scotland College is pleased to be offering weekly Sports Club sessions on Saturdays at both its Aberdeen City and Fraserburgh Campuses.

On the success of the Easter club, Michelle Sutherland, Curriculum Manager for Sport & Fitness at Aberdeen City Campus, said: “This is the first time that North East Scotland College have rolled out an Easter Sports Camp to the community.  The camp was created for children aged 9-14 to provide the opportunity to take part in a variety of fun activities, develop leadership skills, self-confidence, and to make new friends.

“This has been an excellent week and all the children have enjoyed the camp. The camp has also provided opportunities for our HND Sport Coaching students to develop their coaching skills where a few have volunteered to help during this week.”

The weekly club, which will run simultaneously in the College’s Aberdeen City Campus and Fraserburgh Campus, from 9AM-12PM, will offer its members the chance to gain similar skills.

The club allows members to develop leadership skills, self-confidence, and to make new friends through a variety of fun activities, including dodgeball, basketball, kick boxing and football, among others. They will also:

  • Learn how to use gym equipment safely
  • Take part in weekly challenges, which will develop their health and fitness
  • Participate in small, fun tournaments and competitions
  • Undertake basic fitness testing

Lecturers Ross Connell and Ieva Cassi, who ran the Easter Club, said:

“Each child will be given the opportunity to progress in different areas of sports and fitness. The sports facilities at NESCol provide an inspiring backdrop for all involved, with the newly refurbished Fitness Suit, being an area of excitement that was highlighted by all children during Easter. It has been rewarding for the staff involved to provide this experience over the week and we look forward to continuing to expand the use of our facilities with more groups and clubs in the upcoming months and years.”

The Saturday Sports Club starts on Saturday 23 April 2022. Places cost £50 for a 10 week block and can be booked by emailing centraladmin@nescol.ac.uk.
