Modern Apprenticeship

Warehousing Modern Apprenticeship

“There have been things that I didn’t think I needed to learn about that I have learnt about! It’s helped my day job dramatically – I now feel a lot more confident in what I’m doing. “

Conor Dickie is a storeman in the warehouse for Langstane Press. He was introduced to the Modern Apprenticeship (MA) programme through his line manager and he jumped at the opportunity to gain this vocational qualification.

Conor said, “I was really keen to proceed with the apprenticeship. I thought it would improve my CV and it was also the chance to be the first employee within the company to undertake this training programme. I was really determined to complete this and do well.”

Conor’s role was furloughed alongside others during the pandemic with team members coming back into the warehouse on a rota basis. This meant that to complete his apprenticeship he had to work hard to complete his portfolio on return to Langstane Press.

The MA has been beneficial to Conor, expanding his knowledge of the company and the processes. He said, “There have been things that I didn’t think I needed to learn about that I have learnt about! It’s helped my day job dramatically – I now feel a lot more confident in what I’m doing. “

He continued, “The dream is to progress within the company and I would be interested in looking at further qualifications. I am always looking to push myself to the best of my abilities!”

Conor has been shortlisted as a finalist for the NESCol Apprentice of the Year awards.
