“I was so nervous about starting College and felt uncertain about my abilities but NESCol completely changed that. I loved the course, learned so much from my lecturers and it gave me a new found confidence. It’s not easy at times being a busy Mum and juggling study but I have proven I can do it. When I started at NESCol I would never have believed I’d end up studying at a prestigious art school and firmly believe that my time at College has given me an advantage in coping with the demands of a degree. I’d say to any parents out there who feel they want a second chance at education to go for it and grab the opportunity with both hands, it really can change your life. “

Diane (38) made the decision to pursue her lifelong interest in fashion and textiles when her twin boys were just six months old. Having been away from education since her school days, Diane, a mother of four, was apprehensive about applying to College but now considers it one of the best decisions she’s made. Starting on the NC course, Diane embraced all the new skills and knowledge she gained at NESCol and successfully progressed to the HND where again she flourished and thrived with the opportunities her time at College presented.

Diane produced her own clothing pieces and modelled them in the annual fashion show hosted by NESCol textiles students, that year at the city’s Maritime Museum. She was also announced as the winner of ‘Best Work on the Wall’ in the textiles category of the College’s renowned Creative Industries End of Year Show. Achieving her HND allowed Diane entry to Gray’s School of Art at the Robert Gordon University to study for a degree in Fashion & Textile Design where she is now enjoying the second year of her BA Hons.
