Advanced Beauty Therapy Techniques
“The three years were great as you get to do a wide range of treatments, which gives you a proper feel for what it’s like to work as a Beauty Therapist.”
Since leaving NESCol, Cara has built a successful and varied career as a beauty therapist, while also running an award-winning hair and makeup business!
33-year-old Cara Kuszpit lives in Kintore and is a mum to two daughters. She first studied at NESCol while she was still at school, gaining an early insight into the industry.
She said, “I’ve always had an interest in beauty. Whilst I was in fifth year at academy, I joined the School-College beauty therapy course, where I would go to College every Wednesday.
“From there, I left school and went on to study for three more years at College, before qualifying in beauty therapy in 2012.”
Studying at NESCol
Cara loved her time at NESCol, so much so that she hopes to come back as a lecturer one day.
She said, “The three years were great as you get to do a wide range of treatments, which gives you a proper feel for what it’s like to work as a Beauty Therapist.
“The lecturers were absolutely fantastic. They were there every step of the way. I couldn’t have asked for a better bunch to teach me, and some of them are still teaching at NESCol to this day.
“I also met some good friends during my time at College that I still speak to – and have even done their wedding makeup!”
Hair & Beauty career
Cara is an experienced Beauty Therapist, having worked in the industry for over a decade. Three years ago, she decided to return to doing makeup and launched her own business.
She said, “After College I was lucky enough to get a job as a Beauty Therapist, which I still work as today.
“I also run my own business, Cara Kuszpit Makeup, where I do makeup for weddings and special occasions, along with hair styling and brow treatments.”
Cara has been recognised with multiple awards and nominations. She received four nominations last year, including Top Tier and Your Scottish Wedding Awards, and won Hitched’s Beauty, Hair & Make Up Award for Aberdeen & Deeside in 2024.
Cara has a true passion for beauty and is dedicated to continuing her professional development.
She said, “The best thing about my career is all the people I get to meet. I also enjoy that you never stop learning.
“My plan for the future is to grow my business. I also hope to have the opportunity to become a lecturer at NESCol and use my experience to help students become Beauty Therapists, as this was my dream when I first started studying.”
Advice for students
Cara shared that it’s important to stick with your course, even if things get hard.
She said, “My advice to anyone who wants to study beauty therapy, or any other course at NESCol, is don’t give up. Some days will be tougher than others, but the lecturers are there to support you.
“After College, something great will come your way.”
She added, “I would 100% recommend studying at NESCol – there is a variety of courses, so you won’t be stuck for choice. If you think studying at College will help you in your future career, then don’t hesitate to start.
“Good luck – you’re going to smash it!”
