Fully funded part-time courses to help you take your next step into employment.

In partnership with ABZ Works, NESCol is offering fully funded part-time courses for Aberdeen City residents who are out of work.

These courses are designed to help you build confidence and skills that employers value.

Courses

Computing Essentials (Beginners)

An introduction to essential computer skills. 

This 8-week part-time course is delivered in-person at Aberdeen City Campus, in small and supportive groups.

What you’ll learn:

  • The basics of using a Windows computer system
  • Simple keyboard and mouse skills
  • Easy ways to organise files and folders
  • Internet fundamentals and effective web searching
  • How to keep your files safe and secure.

The course can be tailored to meet learner needs.

Upon successful completion, you will be awarded a College Certificate in Computing Essentials (Beginners).

International Certification of Digital Literacy (ICDL)

A globally recognised IT qualification.

ICDL (formerly ECDL) is widely recognised by employers as proof of skills and ability when working with IT. This 16-week course is delivered at Aberdeen City Campus for five hours per week. You’ll learn in-person, in small and supportive groups.

What you’ll learn:

  • Computer basics, internet and email
  • Microsoft packages: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
  • File Management and online safety
  • How to boost your CV with employability skills.

You’ll also have the opportunity to demonstrate your skills through practical tests.

Upon successful completion, you will be awarded a British Computer Society (BCS) qualification.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for these courses, you must:

  • Live in Aberdeen
  • Be aged between 16 and 67
  • Be unemployed or underemployed and not in education
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK.

These courses are also open to parents with children under 18 who live at home (the above criteria must also be met).
