HND Music

“NESCol gave me the confidence boost that I needed to go on and continue my study of music.  The course was interesting and I really enjoyed the combination of learning in both popular and classical music, the broad range of subjects we studied was great.  Coming to College allowed me to focus on the subject I love the most.”

Arwen was a late applicant to NESCol in 2020 after deciding it was the right time to leave school.  Arwen has been involved in music from a young age so studying HND Music at NESCol was a natural progression for her.

Arwen has been playing piano since the age of four, can play sixteen other instruments including the lyre, ukulele, and sings. She knew she wanted to apply to the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff but as she needed to be 18, NESCol was the perfect stepping-stone for her.

Arwen said, “NESCol gave me the confidence boost that I needed to go on and continue my study of music.  The course was interesting and I really enjoyed the combination of learning in both popular and classical music, the broad range of subjects we studied was great.  Coming to College allowed me to focus on the subject I love the most.”

Achieving her HND has allowed Arwen to enter directly into the third year of a BMUS (Hons) in Music – Composition at the Cardiff based conservatoire and she is enjoying life in the Welsh capital so far. In addition, Arwen has built on her experience in theatre. She was selected for the nationally acclaimed National Youth Theatre, places in which are highly sought after.  She enjoyed some acting training with them over the summer and hopes to secure further work in the future.

Arwen’s end goal is to complete her degree, undertake further study to achieve her Masters and subsequently work within the world of theatre and music, her ultimate dream being to write an opera or musical.
