“NESCol really prepared me for the step up to university. I would definitely recommend college if you don’t feel ready to go straight to university when you leave school.”

Edward Flinn (22) is now in the final year of a degree in politics and international relations at Aberdeen University.  His journey to this point began when he spent two years studying social sciences at North East Scotland College’s Fraserburgh Campus when he left school.

He said, “I had always found social subjects interesting when I was at Mintlaw Academy so it made sense to study them in more depth when I left.  I didn’t feel ready for university so applying to study at NESCol seemed like a good next step.”

Edward signed up for HND Social Sciences at the College’s Fraserburgh Campus.  He said, “The best thing about my time at NESCol was the friends I made. You can really get to know people over the two years of the course.”

When his HND course finished, Edward went straight into the second year of the degree at Aberdeen University.  He said, “NESCol really prepared me for the step up to university. I would definitely recommend college if you don’t feel ready to go straight to university when you leave school.”

Now nearly finished his degree, Edward is considering his future options. He said, “My first priority is finishing my degree next summer but I’ve already started considering a few different career paths including teaching.”
