“I completed the NPA Trainee deckhand course with the Scottish Maritime Academy in 2021. Through the College I was lucky enough to get an interview and be offered a job with North Star Shipping. Within a month of finishing I was away on my first trip onboard the Grampian Cavalier.
“During that month North Star Shipping provided training in: Initial Training Shipboard Operations Course (ITSO); Fast Rescue Craft Boatman and STCW Firefighting and Prevention. I was a bit nervous before joining my first trip but the crew were first class! I was made to feel welcome and I have been given plenty of opportunity to progress and to develop my knowledge and understanding.”
