HND Accountancy

“I am still in touch with everyone in my College class – we all try and meet up – when we can! The majority of us are all working.”

Rachel left school at the end of S4 having chosen to focus on Business and Administration -a subject she studied at Fraserburgh Academy and really enjoyed.

She enrolled onto the NC Business SCQF Level 5 course at Fraserburgh Campus which gave her a taste of administration, business and accounts. After successfully completing this she remained at College to progress and complete the HND in Accountancy.

Rachel explains,“It was good to get a taster of all the subjects at NC level because I discovered that I enjoyed numeracy best which then led me to the HND in Accountancy. I didn’t find it too much of a jump from NC to HND, there were elements I found challenging especially economics and law but the lecturers were all lovely and they are there to get you through it.”

After leaving College Rachel worked in a receptionist and administration role for a year before gaining her current role as a Customer Service Advisor for the Bank of Scotland.

“ The role covers Ellon, Fraserburgh and Peterhead and I am using a lot of the knowledge I gained in my HND. As an essential service we have been open during the pandemic so I have to learn to stand on my own two feet pretty quickly. Within the bank there are different roles I can move to in the future – they are not pure accountancy roles – but I really like my job and will wait to see what the future holds.“
