Blackboard

Blackboard is the Virtual Learning Environment system used in the College, where you can access your courses online and find a range of useful information including interactive materials, videos, assessments and feedback. It is the main platform lecturers use to make resources available to you, and you will be expected to access it on a daily basis. There is also a Bb Student app available on the App Store for IOS, Android and Windows devices.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

If you have enrolled on a BYOD course, you are required to have access to your own laptop in class each day.

Having access to your own personal device will enable you to access appropriate materials during classes (using the College’s wireless network) and will also allow you to undertake effective self-study both at College and at home.

Non-advanced students have the option of being provided with a laptop at Induction that is funded via the non-advanced bursary. Please be aware that, depending on your bursary status, you may be required to contribute to the cost of this device.

Advanced Students (those studying an HNC or HND) are not eligible for bursary support and therefore must use their SAAS funding to get a device.

The IT HelpZone

All students are encouraged to bring their own digital device to College to use as a tool to enhance learning, teaching and assessment, indeed, if you are studying on a BYOD course you are required to bring a device with you to college each day.

If you experience any technical problems with IT whilst at College, the Student IT HelpZone is here to help you. Run by students for students, the IT HelpZone team can help with passwords, give advice on IT related issues, PAT Test your devices (which must be done before you can use them at College) and log support calls for technical faults.

Support can be accessed from any of our campuses and centres.

Information on opening hours and contact details can be found on your student intranet, My NESCol.

Office 365

As a student, you will have on-demand access to Microsoft Office 365 providing you with online access to key Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote. You can also download these applications to your own device, so that you don’t need to buy Microsoft Office if you don’t already have it.

In Office 365 you will be able to access your College email account, and exciting communication tools such Teams. Furthermore, you get 1TB of cloud (online) data storage in OneDrive, meaning you can store all of your College work online and access saved work from anywhere and any device, as long as you have an internet connection.

Printing

Multi Function Device (MFD) printers can be found in all Libraries, most corridors and various other public places at each College Campus. The MFDs allow you to print, scan and photocopy documents.

A detailed user guide is available on the MyNESCol Student Portal. This will show you how to top up your print credit and how to print from a mobile device.

Library+

The College has a Library+ at each of the main centres, where you will find thousands of resources for study, individual and group study facilities, PCs and Macs, help from the Library+ team, and support with referencing and researching.
