Joinery and carpentry students win Wrights and Coopers Award
October 2, 2025
Aberdeen Wrights and Coopers Incorporation, in partnership with North East Scotland College (NESCol), recognised two student craftspeople at an awards ceremony on 16 September 2025.
Held at Trinity Hall, the home of the Seven Incorporated Trades of Aberdeen, the annual event celebrates the region’s most talented student craftspeople who have displayed exceptional carpentry and joinery skills during their studies and early careers.
A panel of judges recently visited Fraserburgh Campus to view arched top doors produced by students on the Advanced Craft Carpentry and Joinery course.
They selected Daniel Carroll, employed by SCJ Joinery Ltd, as the winner of this year’s Advanced Craft Award for his high-quality work. Chae Reid, who works for Camwater Ltd., was presented with a close second place.
Nick Sangster, First Master, Wrights and Coopers Incorporation, said:
“On behalf of the Wrights & Coopers Incorporation, I am delighted to congratulate our Advanced Craft winner, Daniel and runner-up, Chae on their fantastic achievements. Their success is a testament to the skill, dedication and hard work required to excel in our trade.
“We are proud to continue our close collaboration with North East Scotland College, whose support and training play a vital role in nurturing the next generation of craftspeople. Encouraging and investing in young talent is essential to the future of the construction industry and we are committed to ensuring that opportunities remain strong for those who choose to build their careers in this important sector.”
Danny Watson, Curriculum Manager for Construction and Computing, NESCol, said:
“The College has a long-standing and valued partnership with the Wrights and Coopers and the Seven Incorporated Trades. We’re grateful for their continued support, which makes a real difference to the students and their learning experience.
“The annual awards allow students to showcase their work and celebrate the skills they’ve worked hard to develop during their time at NESCol. With Trinity Hall serving as a historic venue for the ceremony, it’s a memorable occasion for all involved.
“Congratulations to Daniel and Chae for their excellent craftsmanship.”
