- Completion of HNC Social Sciences with Criminology.
This advanced level course will strengthen your existing knowledge and understanding when it comes to human behaviour and human society. You will use critical thinking to analyse different issues and build valuable evaluative and problem solving skills. You will also develop sound research skills – a vital component in the understanding and study of social sciences.
Please note: This course is the second year of HND Social Sciences only. You can only apply for this course if you are currently studying, or already hold, HNC Social Sciences with Criminology. For those looking to study with us at SCQF Level 7 in August 2026, we are offering HNC Social Sciences with Criminology (NextGen). From August 2027 our HND programme will change and successful students will be able to progress to HND Social Sciences (NextGen), a one-year course at SCQF Level 8.

If you are studying a full-time advanced course (HNC, HND or above), you may be entitled to funding.

This course is a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programme. This means that you are required to have access to your own laptop computer, netbook or similar device in class each day that you are in college.
If you do not already own a suitable device you can apply for a student loan from SAAS, if eligible, to fund the cost of purchasing a device.

You can apply for a place on this course by completing an online application form, which you can access using the ‘Apply Online’ button. Once submitted, this will be processed by our Admissions team.

If you take up a place on a College course, at the start of the course you will be asked to complete an enrolment form. In completing the form and/or taking up a place on a College course, you will enter into a contract with the College and be bound by the North East Scotland College Standard Terms and Conditions of Study.
