Entry Requirements
✔️ Holders of a Small Vessel Chief Engineer <500 GT / <3000 kW CoC can now apply through J2.
✔️ Candidates must still show 6 months sea time on fishing vessels (usually already met through fishing service).
Why take this course?
Comprising of 5 modules this forms part of the conversion route towards the Engineer Officer Small Vessel Certificate of Competency less than 9000kW, less than 3000 GT, unlimited area CoC or an SV Chief Engineer less than 3000 kW, less than 500 GT.

The MCA units are delivered over the course of 9 months in sequence via 6 weeks of distance learning and 4 days exam revision per module.

- 060-03 Auxiliary Equipment – part 1
- 060-01 Marine Diesel Engineering
- 060-02 Operational Procedures, Basic Hotel Services and Ship Construction
- 059-01 Chief Engineer Statutory & Operational Requirements
- 059-02 Auxiliary Equipment – part 2
For Class 1 Engineers you also need the following modules
- 058-01 Applied Marine Engineering
- 058-11 Engineering Science 1
- 058-12 Engineering Science 2
